Endoscopia
Endoscopia

It is an outpatient diagnostic procedure that allows your doctor to look inside the upper part of the digestive system.

Using a long, flexible tube with a small camera at one end (an endoscope), your doctor can see inside your esophagus, stomach, and upper duodenum (the first part of the small intestine).

Benefits :

  • The doctor can see things that do not look good on x-rays.
  • Some problems can be treated during the procedure.
  • Tissue samples can be taken for biopsies.

Preparation for the procedure:

  • Follow a soft diet the day before: Lunch and liquid dinner.
  • Keep fasting. Do not consume any food during the 8 hours prior to your study. Smoking or chewing gum is prohibited during this time.
  • You must sign a consent, indicating that you have been informed of the study to which it will be submitted and that you authorize its performance.

Recommendations:

  • Do not drive before 12 hours after the endoscopy to allow the effects of the sedative to wear off.
  • Patients should inform their doctor about all health problems they have and all medications they are taking.
  • It is recommended to attend your study accompanied.
  • Bring comfortable clothing for your study.
  • Please attend 30 minutes in advance of your appointment.
